Mapping for HL1 [Similiar Setup for HL2]

WorldWarIII

[ Respected ]
Okay people I'm gonna write a very simple tutorial on some CS mapping basics.

First, I would get some tools.

Valve Hammer Editor v3.4 (3D Map Editor)
Wally v1.55B (HL Texture Editor)
Zoner's Half-Life Tools v2.5.3 (Custom map compile tools)
BSP View (Map viewer)

Let's setup all correctly.

Install Valve Hammer Editor to folder of your choice. We'll use <hammerdir> instead of full path.
Install Zoner's Half-Life Tools to <hammerdir>\zhlt
Wally and BSPView are optional.

Run Hammer. Go to Tools->Options->Configuration
The picture tells it all.

(Game Data Files aka .fgd files can be found in <hammerdir>\fgd)

Click OK and then run the configuration again. Go to "Build Programs" tab.
This is where we set paths to game executable, and bulid programs. Yes, we are gonna use zhlt tools...

"Game Executable" is obviously the game executable

So you need to specify the path to your game, for example C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\[email protected]\Counter-Strike\hl.exe
CSG, BSP, VIS, and RAD executables are all found in <hammerdir>\zhlt (hlcsg.exe, hlbsp.exe, hlvis.exe, and hlrad.exe respectively)
"Place compiled maps in this folder before running the game" should point to CS maps folder, and not as shown in the picture. So, C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\[email protected]\Counter-Strike\cstrike\maps

Now let's set up the textures...

cstrike.wad, decals.wad, and halflife.wad is what you should always have.
Other textures depend on which theme do you want for your map.
You can also create your own texture pack (WAD) with Wally.

Now if you can get me some good working links for hl2 mapping i will love you, because a lot of the sites iv checked are dead now :( i used to hl1 map but that was time ago and need some tuts to give me a boost.
