Sun-Intel partnership bearing fruit

The year-and-a-half-long partnership between Intel and Sun Microsystems is showing results, executives of both firms recently told journalists at a briefing.

With teams of Sun engineers regularly visiting Intel offices to collaborate, and Intel engineers likewise visiting Sun offices, the blended teams have shared intelligence that’s allowed them to tweak OpenSolaris, the open-source OS, and the Solaris 10 commercial OS, to take full advantage of Intel’s processor families, such as the Xeon and Penryn lines as well as the upcoming Nehalem.
