Here is a lil tut on how to Validate you ripped version of windows. (so you get all the Automatic updates)

OK so,

Click on start > All programs > Accessories > Notepad

Paste the following in the text docu.

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
"CurrentBuild"="1.511.1 () (Obsolete data - do not use)"
"ProductId"="55274-640-1011873-23081"
"DigitalProductId"=hex:a4,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,35, 35,32,37,34,2d,36,34,30,2d,\
31,30,31,31,38,37,33,2d,32,33,30,38,31,00,2e,00,00 ,00,41,32,32,2d,30,30,30,\
30,31,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,86,56,4e,4c,21,1b,2b,6a ,a3,78,8e,8f,98,5c,00,00,\
00,00,00,00,dd,da,47,41,cc,6b,06,00,00,00,00,00,00 ,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,\
00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,38,31,30,32,36,00 ,00,00,00,00,00,00,b5,16,\
00,00,83,83,1f,38,f8,01,00,00,f5,1c,00,00,00,00,00 ,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,\
00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00 ,66,e5,70,f3
"LicenseInfo"=hex:33,b7,21,c1,e5,e7,cd,4b,fd,7c,c6 ,35,51,fd,52,57,17,86,3e,18,\
d3,f4,8c,8e,35,32,7b,d1,43,8d,61,38,60,a4,ca,55,c9 ,9a,35,17,46,7a,4f,91,fc,\
4a,d9,db,64,5c,c4,e2,0f,34,f3,ea

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WPAEvents]
"OOBETimer"=hex:ff,d5,71,d6,8b,6a,8d,6f,d5,33,93,f d
Now, click file> save as.

For file type in the save dialog box select "all files" and for the filename type in <yourname>.reg or whatever you want. It doesn't matter as long as it has the .reg extension. Then Click save.

Double click the file that is now on your desktop.

Winows will ask if you are sure..... yes you are....

Now to see that it worked, go Here, and click on validate windows.

Now have fun with your up-to-date XP.

You can now delete the file you made on your desktop.
(Note: tested and working on Windows XP professional service pack 2+3)

If this has helped you out, please click on the Thanks button!

holy hell this actually works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the only problem is that i have been downing updates for the last 3-4 hours lol

I don't think this is the valid category for this topic. This has nothing to do with programming or tutorials, except for geeky looking hex arrays. Check the tags, too.

...the content itself might prove useful, though.

Its a tutorial on how to validate windows, and if it is in the wrong section I'm sure a admin or mod will let me know and/or move it.

I'd rather say these are plain instructions on how to do it. Basically, you provide the code needed to activate windows; from a tutorial I would expect to learn a new skill reading it, such as an ability to produce such code myself. I'm not saying it would be better or easier, though. Again, thanks for the post.

Whatever, it seems any further discussion is pretty pointless :p

By the way, what's the point of creating two text files? You can "save" and rename the first one (as long as extensions are toggled visible) or press
o858.png
+R, type "notepad" press Enter.

You know how to use computers. Good for you! but there are less fortunate ppl out there that dont knot how to unhide extensions! imagine that! so it was written so that all bases are covered. ;)

Following that thought, opening notepad using start menu or hotkey I mentioned is better as afterwards it leaves only one file on your desktop, instead of two. I also believe that for a computer newbie it might appear uncertain whether these files may be deleted safely or not after following your instructions. Furthermore, if you think there are people that might not now how to open notepad here, you might want to consider writing an explanation on how to right-click and double-click icons on the desktop. You think I'm exaggerating? ;)

Lol I know you not exaggerating!

I work for a Technical helpdesk and was once on the phone for 10 minutes with some guy in Spain trying to teach him how to double-click. Lol no lie! :eek:

I ended up telling him just to click it once and then press Enter. lol

Edited Tut in accordance to opening notepad through the start menu / deleting file afterwards. Thanks Mateusz!
