Microsoft has just about run out of options in defending a $290 million patent-infringement lawsuit against Word -- a lawsuit Microsoft has been losing nearly every step of the way.
On Friday, Microsoft said it has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court in its case against i4i Inc., which sued the Redmond-based company in 2007 for allegedly using its patented custom-XML technology in Word. With the petition, Microsoft is on its last leg for fighting the lawsuit through legal channels. The other options? Settle out of court or just pay the $290 million...
