Prevent updating?

Is there any way to prevent steam from updating a game and just launch it as it is?

Right click the game, and in properties you can disable automatic updating.

I can do that, but if I click launch, the screen comes up that says "updating [app name]" and it won't launch. The screen that says "Launch as soon as it's ready", "Ready to play in approximately:" etc.

It must have already updated, try it with a game that hasn't begun an update.

The update window still come up, just like I said before

I know you can use the Steam.cfg to prevent Steam from updating, not sure about games, I would have to look it up.

Steam will auto update the game if you try and play it, the only way to play the version without updating is to use steambuster or another launcher.

I'm using SMD at the moment, I'll try steambuster. Thank you.


I tried using SteamBuster, but whenever I try to launch a game, a window comes up that says "Failed to load the launcher DLL: The specified module could not be found.

Please help...


Edit: Ok, I sort of fixed that problem. I can run Tools and Mods now, but I can't run anything else

Check and verify you have followed the directions properly.
