I'm pleased to introduce the YapMap Visual Search replacement mod for vBulletin 4 users.
This is a mod that you can use to replace or supplement your existing search.

Background
We were long frustrated with the quality of existing threaded search (whether vBulletin or the other platforms). As such, my business partner Kevin and I quit our day jobs and spent the last three+ years trying to build a better solution. What started as a hope to integrate existing search solutions turned into the creation of a new type of search platform. We already index more than 500 million posts on the YapMap Search Platform and would love to provide you with a better threaded search experience. You can read more about YapMap overall at yapmap.com

We're looking to add advanced features as we move forward like integrated image search, per forum dictionaries (for better understanding of acronyms and abbreviations), more platforms, support for non-threaded content (like blog entries), etc.

Note that this mod currently only supports indexing English. We also currently only index forum threads.

- Pretty. Visual experience allows users to more quickly triage threads and find otherwise hidden information
- Simple. Filters are in context and users don't have to decide between searching by post or by thread.
- Customizable. It's already built within an existing vBulletin template so you can customize the search wrapper as you see fit.
- Simple. There is no complex technical integration because the mod leverages the YapMap search infrastructure. This also means that searching doesn't load down your servers.

Install

The attached mod is straight forward to install. It contains two main components:
- The YapMap API which allows us to crawl your site with the least amount of server load and get accurate and uptodate listings for all your posts
- A search page with associated vBulletin template designed to show YapMap results seamlessly within your existing vBulletin setup.
Installation Steps:
- Upload the files inside the upload directory to your vBulletin forums directory.
- In the vb admin control panel, install the plugin xml via "Plugins & Products > Manage Products > Add/Import Product".
- In the vb admin control panel, select "Settings > Options > YapMap Settings" and go to edit settings
- Click on the 'register' link within the YapMap API Key description field.
- Register as a user on YapMap.com (using Google, Facebook or direct).
- After registering yourself, register your website, providing information about URL and path to the yapmap files. Once registration is complete,
- YapMap will return you to a list of your sites.
- Copy and paste the YapMap API Key and Secret back into the vBulletin settings page that you should still have open.
- Click save.
- YapMap will contact you in a few days or less depending on the size of your site, notifying you that your site has been crawled
- Replace you existing primary search box with a YapMap searchbox. Example replacement can be found in the file "input.txt".
- Have happier users who find more content and ask the same questions less.
