Help: Unable to download games from Steam!

when i try to download a game (namely CS 1.6) i get the following message:

The Steam servers are currently too busy to handle your request.
Please try again in a few minutes.

what do i do about this?
oh i'm using the undead patch and i've already downloaded and copied the GFC files in to steamapps too

is there anything else i could use? which will let me download games (atleast CS1.6 and CS:S) for free from Steam?

FSC is going to be updated soon, and will hopefully have a lot of fixes, including drivers to allow it to work on Vista.

theres official response, i may also start uploading GCFs and publicize links
just need too find someone to host about 10gb.
