Skyrim from disc without Steam?

One of my friends bought a physical copy of Skyrim, which unfortunately requires Steam to install. Is there any possible way I can just borrow his copy, install it sans-Steam and crack it?
I'd torrent it, but I'm on a laptop and my wireless is absolutely horrible at it (last check: about 3ish weeks to torrent)
